1993 Campionato Italiano Superbike

1992's top three - Fabrizio Pirovano, Piergiorgio Bontempi and Baldassarre Monti - were again the class of the field in 1993. Monti started strong with four consecutive wins with Pirovano in tow each time, but after a mid-season switch to Yamaha his focus shifted to the World Championship. It wasn't until July that Pirovano scored his first victory, with his lead in the points now secured by finishing ahead of Bontempi in every race but one. Thanks to the regulations allowing each rider to discard their two lowest scores from the year, most of the front-runners with World Championship ambitions skipped the final round at Vallelunga - scheduled one week before the Portuguese World Superbike round - and the depleted superbike grid was combined with the equally small Supersport and Open classes for the last two races. Aldeo Presciutti took advantage by winning both races and prmoting himself to a career-best third in the championship, behind now three-time champion Pirovano and regular runner-up Bontempi.
