It wouldn't be a Pro-Superbike season without rider uprisings and organisational oddities; this time the championship was tainted from the start. Freakishly cold weather prompted a decision by many riders to boycott the race on safety grounds, right up until the moment came and a change of heart was suddenly felt. Only half of the grid started the opening race of 1995, which was stopped shortly after half-distance anyway. Half-points were awarded, until upon reading the regulations closer the OMK realised that it had counted as a full race - more than 50% distance completed. The second race wasn't much better. Although this time everyone lined up, amendments to the results were forced by the discovery that the top two finishers - and allegedly many others - had used illegal fuel. This gave Christer Lindholm a huge points advantage, which he surely felt was deserved after 1994, but ex-250cc star Jochen Schmid's speed and tenacity for the rest of the year paid off and he clawed his way to the top of the standings along with the ever-present Edwin Weibel. Weibel's title hopes crumbled at the final round and so nearly did Schmid's after a 14th-place finish in race 1, but though Lindholm held his nerve to score maximum points it was just barely too little: for the second year running he finished runner-up by a measly few points and Jochen Schmid clung on to his hard-fought trophy.
