1995 FIM Superbike World Championship
A tense and thrilling 1994 season would have been hard to match in 1995, and with Scott Russell's early departure from the championship it became a Ducati-dominated series once again. Carl Fogarty won with ease, backed up by another Ducati of Troy Corser, prompting the FIM to finally hear the long-standings complaints that the regulations favoured the two-cylinder bikes; a mid-season rule change brought them to the same weight as their four-cylinder rivals, although the higher engine capacity allowance remained. Aaron Slight, the most vocal opponent to the technical differences, had to settle for 3rd despite a consistent season. A fourth manufacturer, Yamaha, entered the fight with a strong team built on young talents Colin Edwards and Yasutomo Nagai, but their season ended tragically when Nagai lost his life in a crash at Assen and the team withdrew from the final 2 rounds. Kawasaki's new recruit Anthony Gobert made an immediate impact on the championship with his spectacular riding and peronsality, as did former Grand Prix racer Pierfrancesco Chili. The pool of talent grew deeper still.
